For longer than anyone can remember the old lighthouse has stood on the Island of Lost Souls just off the coast of Southern England. But everyone knows its grim history.

Five keepers of the lighthouse have committed suicide, four have gone mad, four have disappeared without a trace, and two have never reached the lighthouse at all. They vanished forever in the labyrinth of caves which provide the only route into the lighthouse.

You are offered the job as the new keeper of the lighthouse. With some second thoughts you accept and the villagers organise a boat to take you across to the island. It is a cold autumn morning when two of the men from the village row you out through the thick mist that envelopes everything. Suddenly sheer cliffs, hundreds of feet high loom above you. The oarsmen guide the boat towards a small sandy beach which is completely surrounded by the cliffs. As you step ashore one of the men hands you a lantern. The light it gives off is pretty feeble but it is better than nothing.

As the men row away from the island one of them shouts - "Be careful, they say the island is haunted".

You look around at the bleak surrounding and wonder just what you have got yourself into. You contemplate your task before you set off. It won't be easy to reach the summit of the island and light the lamp that is on the top floor of the lighthouse. But someone must do it and you are now the only person on the island, the only person alive that is! It is now that your adventure begins.

The game understands the standard two word commands e.g. 'GET LANTERN', TILL LANTERN' etc. Use the cursor keys to move North, South, East or West. To move up or down type in 'UP' or 'DOWN'. You can shorten the two word commands to the first three letters e.g. 'GET LAN', 'FIL LAN'. For a list of i isms that you are carrying type 'IN'. For a description of your present location type in 'LO'. It you think you are stuck with no means of escape, you can quit by typing in 'QU'. Good luck and don't worry if you don't make it first time.
