In response to numerous requests, and to placate an ed who's fed up of sending out photocopies to readers who've lost or never had the original, were reprinting Martin Schroeder's ever popular hacking aid. It works for tapes as well as disks. Hacker allows you to find infinite lives, infinite energy or infinite time for almost any game you care to mention. It searches through a program and looks for certain routines - which could be associated with lives, energy or time - and then prints (to either screen or printer) the most likely pokes. Martin's program may list a number of different pokes. Some don't do anything. Others affect different parts of the game (and may even crash it). The correct poke is lurking among the others listed.
