Coktel Vision Cracker 1.0 * Tom et Jerry (c) GPA 06/2000 ------------------------- Coktel Vision Cracker is a little tool that removes the protection on a few games and educational software published by the french editor Coktel Vision. I am not sure these programs have been sold out of France... Why making such a naughty tool ? Well, I have bought recently two Coktel's second-hand software and each time, the protection failed ! If you want to look at the assembler routines used by CVC (nothing quite hard), edit the file CVC.ASM. Analyse the Coktel vision protection ------------------------------------ Many programs on disk published by Coktel Vision have a physical lock on the track 40 of the A side. A routine, mainly located on a short file (1 or 2kb) reads the track 40 to verify if it is correct. To run a program using this protect system, you must first load |CPM then start a .COM file. I have seen several releases of this protection. It does always the same thing, but the 'test' routine is not the same : - the older one, done by KBI can be found looking for the hexadecimal string   3E FF CD 80 BE. Replace 3E with C9 to remove protection. - another kind of test routine can be detected looking for strings   16 28 3A 00 A7 and 'MASTER'. Replace 16 with C9. Warning ! Some quite old softwares from Coktel (Poseidon...) don't use this kind of protection. I want to use Coktel Vision Cracker ----------------------------------- First step : ************ Make a copy of the original diskette (tracks 0 to 39). If you don't have any copy programs, you can use CPM's utilities (DISCKIT2 or DISCKIT3). Look at your Amstrad User's Manual for further details ! 2eme etape : ********** Start CVC.BAS. Insert the copy and press a key to begin the search of the 'test' routine. The cpc displays which tracks and sectors are read and analyzed. If no routine is detected, CVC will not be able to unprotect the software.. If a routine has been found, CVC ask you for patching the diskette. Push a key to say YES !! Coktel Vision Cracker has been succesfully tested with the following programs :         - Nitroglycerine (KBI)         - Visa pour Hyde Park (english lessons !)         - Micro Bac Histoire         - A la decouverte de la vie (KBI)
