ALTERNATIVE WORLD GAMES
SPECTRUM/AMSTRAD INSTRUCTIONS Why be serious when there is so much fun in taking an alternative view of things? This ingenious but hilarious spoof will have you in stitches, not to mention the river, canal, sack ... You'll be racing in Naples, Boot Throwing at the Colosseum, Pole Climbing in Verona and Running up Walls in Venice! If you can still stand the pace, try your hand at Balancing Plates, Jumping Rivers, Pogo and Pillow Fighting. Recapture the very essence of competitive spirit in this comical collection of ALTERNATIVE WORLD GAMES! HOW TO PLAY When the title screen has loaded, press FIRE. After the credit screen has loaded press FIRE again lo load the COUNTRY SELECTION MENU. Type your name and press RETURN, then choose your Country by pressing UP or DOWN to select the correct flag and press FIRE. GAME SELECTION MENU You will be shown a screen containing a video recorder and nine monitors. By moving the joystick up or down, change the 'channel number' on the video recorder and press FIRE to light up each game's monitor, and display your chosen game(s). If you select number 9 you can choose between COMPETITION and PRACTICE by moving the joystick left or right. Press FIRE to load your first chosen game. At the end of the practice game, you will be asked if you wish to TRY AGAIN. Move the joystick up or down to choose and press FIRE to select. GAME 1 - SACK RACE At the beginning of the game you are asked to choose your opponent. Move the highlight using your joystick and select by pressing FIRE. Use LEFT/RIGHT to move your player along - timing is important! If you fall down, press UP to lift your player up again and use UP or DOWN to negotiate the manholes in the road. To jump, press FIRE. GAME 2 - PILE OF PLATES At the start of the game press UP/DOWN to increase or decrease the number of plates, then press FIRE to begin. Pressing UP increases the walking speed of your contestant, and pressing DOWN slows him down (be careful, if you pull back long enough he will start walking backwards!) , LEFT/RIGHT moves his arms back and forth, balancing the pile of plates. FIRE will drop one plate from the top of the pile. GAME 3 - BOOT THROWING At the start of the game, press UP/DOWN to select EMPTY BOOT or BOOT FILLED WITH WATER (which can travel further), then press FIRE to begin. LEFT/RIGHT swings the boot around in the air - timing must be accurate! Gradually build up the speed of rotation keeping an eye on the speed indicator. When you roach full speed, throw the boot as soon as possible, before your contestant loses his strength (faster if the boot is full). Press FIRE to thow the boot. GAME 4 - RIVER JUMP Press FIRE to start your contestant running. Your speed depends on the angle of your pole, which yoi can change by pressing UP or DOWN. The best angle is perfectly level, but the pole is heavy and is prone to drop. Providing the angle is low enoug i, your contestant will jump at the waters edge. When the pole is upright in the water press FIRE to let go of the pole and vault to the ot ler side. GAME 5 - POLE CLIMBING At the beginning of the game selec your opponent as in Sack Race. To make your contestant climb the pole, you must follow the sequence of UP-FIRE-DOWN (with FIRE s ill held down) - release FIRE: UP-FIRE, etc. The speed of climbing depends on the speed of the joystick. If you reach the top of the x>le you will collect the bottle of champagne, but you must safely ;lide down the pole again before your opponent. Press FIRE even' so often to slow down your slide, otherwise you will drop the bottlo. GAME 6 - RUN UP THE WALL To start your contestant running, press UP. Press UP and UP again to increase your speed, and DOWN to slow down. The parrot who carries the hat stops three times in the air before he drops it. To catch the hat, ensure you are directly beneath the parrot when it drops the hat then press FIRE. As you approach the wall, first p. ess FIRE and then while running upwards press UP. At the highes point you reach, press FIRE and the hat will stick to the wall. Pull the joystick LEFT and then DOWN for a safe landing. An attempt is only successful if you have the hat (it sticks on the wall automatical!) GAME 7 - PILLOW FIGHT At the beginning of the game select your opponent, in Sack Race. Try to knock your opponent into the water by repeatedly bashing him with your pillow. For both players:- DOWN - Defend your nearest side UP - Defend your furthest side. FIRE & UP - Hit to your nearest side. FIRE & DOWN - Hit to your furthest side. For the Left Hand Player:- RIGHT - Defend a hit from above. FIRE & RIGHT - Hit from above For the Right Hand Player:- LEFT - Defend a hit from above FIRE & LEFT - Hit from above. The player who falls into the watfcr loses the game. GAME 8 - POGO You must pogo around the coursi, bursting the balloons along the way. You only have 9 minutes 59 sefconds. after that the message "OUT OF TIME" comes up, so don't ddlay! UP moves in the direction you ark facing, DOWN moves in the opposite direction and LEFT/RIQHT to change direction. FIRE to stand up again after a fat or to jump higher. CONTROLS SPECTRUM: On the menu screen you may select: 1. Interface 2/+2 Joystick 2. Cursor Joystick 3. Kempston Joystick 4. Keyboard Press the appropriate key number for Player One, then Player Two. Keyboard controls are:- SPECTRUM : One Player Up - Q Down - A Left - O Right - P Fire - SYM SHIFT Two Players Left Player Right Player Up Q P Down A L Left S J Right D K Fire Z SYM SHIFT AMSTRAD: On the menu screen, you may select between KEYBOARD, JOYSTICK or both. Keyboard controls are:- Player 1 Player 2 Up Q F8 Down A F2 Left R F4 Right T F6 Fire SPACE SHIFT LOADING INSTRUCTIONS Spectrum 48K: Type LOAD"" and press ENTER. Spectrum 128K/+2: Use the TAPE LOADER as normal. Spectrum +3: Use the DISK LOADER as normal. Amstrad Tape: Press the CTRL and small ENTER keys together. Amstrad Disk: Type |CPM and press RETURN. PLEASE NOTE This is a multiload game. Please remember to stop the tape after loading each section. Events 5 to 8 are on Side B of the tape.
