BASKET CASES v.1 (ENGLISH) SCENARIO Fancy a match of basketball? ôBasket Casesö is a two-on-two basketball videogame pitting nine teams of increasing difficulty and decreasing sportmanship against the player: they won't mind playing foul if that's what it takes them to win the tournament! Oh, two players can duke it out too! LOADING INSTRUCTIONS Tape: press the CONTROL and SMALL ENTER keys together, then push PLAY on the tape deck. Owners of computers with disc drives must type |TAPE and press RETURN beforehand. Disc: type RUNöDISC and push ENTER. CONTROLS Default controls are joysticks #1 and #2. Custom keys can be redefined at the menu. P pauses and resumes the game. ESCAPE quits the game and returns to the menu. FIRE either passes the ball to the teammate or tries stealing it off a nearby rival. JUMP throws the ball at the basket, or tries catching it if someone else has just thrown it. GAMEPLAY Basketball rules have been simplified to ease the gameplay. Players automatically bounce the ball on the floor, stay inside the bounds and avoid committing several violations. Each match is four minutes long. Human control applies to the player either holding the ball or closest to it; the computer handles the other player. Actions depend upon whether the team is holding the ball (attacking) or not (defending): on attack, jump will either dunk (if the player is below the basket) or shoot the ball to the basket, while fire will pass the ball to the teammate. On defense, jump will try catching an airborne ball, while fire will try stealing the ball off a rival. AUTHORSHIP AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ôBasket Casesö was developed by César Nicolás González (ôCNGSOFTö): programming, graphics, sound effects, music library (CHIPNSFX by CNGSOFT)... The assembler used to compile this game is AS80 by Frank A. Kingswood. The main sources of inspiration were ôInternational Basketballö (1983 Andrew Spencer), ôFernando Martín Basket Masterö (1987 Dinamic), ôArch Rivalsö (1989 Midway) and the sports games released by Opera Soft, ranging from ôHockeyö (1985) to ôGolden Basketö (1990). Serena from ôPhantis / Game Over IIö (1987 Dinamic) is the guest star. The soundtrack features covers of two songs by David Whittaker and one by Fernando Cubedo (ôPhantisö, no less). The game was made in very dire conditions under ten days of work. My apologies :-( ======================================================================== |
