Sanko v1.1 (c)1998 Systeme D
Sanko is a utility for Protext users. It introduces a new command to Protext - SANKO - which saves the current document in Rich Text Format. RTF is a cross-computer format, devised by Microsoft, which lets you exchange text between different programs and machines without losing formatting information such as bold, italics, and paragraph breaks. Most leading word-processors, such as Word and MacWrite, understand RTF. This means that you can now save your Protext documents in a form immediately readable by PCs and Macintoshes. All you need to do is use DOS-Copy, or a similar program, to put them onto PC discs. How to use Sanko Just RUN"SANKO" . After the Systeme D logo has been displayed, the screen will clear and you will be free to enter Protext with |P as usual. When you want to save a document in Rich Text Format, type SANKO, and you will be prompted for a filename. That's all there is to it. Sanko preserves the following information: - All text - Paragraph breaks - Tabs - Bold, italic, and underline codes - Paragraph justification All lines beginning with an > are éignoredé, as these usually contain formatting information peculiar to Protext and CPC printers. You will need to add such information to the PC document manually. The PC document will be formatted in 12-point Helvetica, with black text throughout. For a demonstration, try saving this document using Sanko. Smart quotes Sanko includes a feature called "smart quotes". The CPC only possesses one quote mark (') and one double quote ("). Proper typographers use different marks for the beginning and end of quotations, known as "opening quotes" and "closing quotes". A document transferred with Sanko will have opening and closing quotes automatically substituted for the standard CPC characters. Similarly, a hyphen separated by a space either side - like these - will be replaced by a proper en dash, which should appear slightly longer.
