The French have their own unique way of expressing themselves and at present its keeping the switchboard at Amstrad's French office jammed. From the start of the fairly low-key advertising campaign the customer relations department have been listening to such superlatives as "C'est fantastique" down the end of the phone for a solid 8 hours every day and when they can't get through on le telephone some 200 write in per day requesting "votre documentation s'il vous plait". (Just who is this Marc James? -ed) It appears that the completeness of the Amstrad computer has touched on one of those very sensitive French nerves, don't forget across the channel they have to worry about multiple standards of television - PAL, SECAM, PERITEL, 819 lines AND 625 lines - so the "plug it in and off you go" argument is particularly pertinent. [Un plug et il marche] As Francois Quentin (French computer project leader) correctly predicted some time ago, the CPC464 is selling like ripe Camemberts - they don't like hot cakes over there. Coincidentally at exactly the same time the British public were visiting their premier computer show, so too were their French counterparts. Of course Amstrad were there and reported tremendous interest from both the trade and the public during the 9 days SICOB Show at La Defense in Paris. CPC464 USER (10-11/1984)
