Setanta have only been in existence for two months but they already have three utilities ready; Memory Boss, Sprites and Tool Kit. I was attracted to their stand by an Amstrad that looked as if it had been rigged for space flight. The 464 disk drive was housed in a box that was at least four times the size of the drive and had more lights on the front than a wally's Escort 1300. Stupidly I asked the exhibitor if he was marketing this design as a sort of IBM look-alike console, the sort of thing people used to sell for Spectrums to make them look really beefy. It turned out to be the man's development kit which housed a motherboard which not only boasted an EPROM programmer but a very, powerful speech synthesiser as well. After listening to his Straddles chunter away like an electronic mother in law I was impressed. Not only did the software look very easy to use but it took advantage of interrupts which means that Straddles can talk and perform useful tasks at the same time — show me a mother-in-law that can do that! A Straddles rigged for space flight on the Setanta stand.
