I am actually working on the DK'Tronics and Amstrad SSA-1 speech synthesizer's emulation.
Booth are almost working perfect... Amstrad still denies the software speech (|SAY,"....") but all features games already work fine with it. Example video: Roland in space: http://cpc.devilmarkus.de/roinspace/
If someone knows the exact timings and states of the FBEE port during CPU cycles please let me know!
Maybe someone can help me to improve it: The DK'Tronics and also the SSA-1 are using different port states: (Simple explanation, how "Roland in space" detects and talks) READ port &FBEE -> when &80 -> WRITE a value (0-5) to this port, -> read the port again, when &40 -> wait ~18µs -> read it again, must be 0
The problem here is now: - what happens internally in the SPO256 chip? - During CPU cycles: Which values must be returned from Port &FBEE / &FBFE??? - Which are the exact timings between the port states, when you write a value to it?
My emulation already makes all featured games talk, also a simple test program speechs well, but the software for SSA-1 still doesn't work (I think because I have bad port timings)
The port returns 2 values: - LRQ (Defines, if you are allowed to write data to the port, &80 if allowed, &00 if not) - SBY (Defines, if the spo is active (&00 = is active, &40 = is inactive) returned like: return (LRQ|SBY);
CPC cpu cycles 1000000 times per second, so I need to know the relative timings to the SPO chip... Until this is not exact, the software RSX cannot work...
The return states for the DK'Tronics speech are simplier to handle, so the DK'Tronics RSX work well...
Maybe here's somebody who owns the SSA-1? If yes, please contact me so that we can make some port tests...
