ARNOLD EMULATOR - CPC/CPC+ EMULATOR

WORK IN PROGRESS RELEASE - 22 - APRIL - 2000

NOTE:

You use this emulator at your own risk, I cannot be held responsible
to any damage it may cause.

If you want to know how to load software, then ask in the newsgroup.
If you want games then download them from ftp://ftp.nvg.unit.no/pub/cpc.
If you want demos, CPC shareware programs etc get them from ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/amstrad.
Don't ask me for games.

I do not have a release date set for the beta or full release. I will
release it when I am happy with it, and when I am ready. I will post
a message in the comp.sys.amstrad.8bit newsgroup.

This program is (c) copyright Kevin Thacker.
The roms are (c) copyright Amstrad plc.

This is not the proper documentation. That will be written ready
for when the emulator is released.

======================================================================

This archive contains a preview of my CPC/CPC+ emulator called
Arnold. (This emulator is still in development)

To use this emulator, you must have a PC with a Pentium (or equivalent),
Win95/98 with DirectX 5.0 or greater installed, NT4 with Service Pack3, or NT5.
You can download the DirectX re-distributable from Microsoft's web-site.

http://www.microsoft.com/directx

If the emulator doesn't run properly, you might not have DirectX
installed properly. Test on a game that you know requires DirectX
to run. If that game works correctly, then please tell me about your configuration.

Win98 comes with DirectX5 installed. You will not need to download
the re-distributable to run on Win98 systems.

The emulator will only run in a 16-bit desktop resolution. It should
warn you if you try to run it in any other settings.

Currently it runs at 200% on a PII-233. On a Cyrix 166 it
is just about useable and runs at 50% speed.
I am working on lots of optimisations and features to enhance the speed of it.

The speed of the emulator in CPC+ mode is much slower when the CPC+
features are activated, the emulator must perform more checking,
for this emulation.

The emulator is still in development, and therefore it contains many
bugs and features that have not been implemented yet. I know about many of the
the bugs that are present, so please do not tell me about them.

Selecting some features may not produce any effect, or may crash
the emulation. That's because I haven't implemented them properly
yet.

I am writing this in my free time (I don't have much free time), so
please be patient until the full release is made.

Plus, I do not have much time for answering personal e-mails, so
be prepared to wait for a reply. I am busy at work.

If it locks up for any reason, and you cannot quit by closing the window,
then you will have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and close the task down.

Enjoy

Kevin Thacker
