I FOUND Ian Sharpe's 3D Surface Plotter in the April 1987 issue of Computing with the Amstrad fascinating. I have made a few modifications which I think greatly improve one of the functions - number 6 on the menu. Crumpled. The way this function builds up a surface is to repeatedly take a random line across the grid and shear everything on one side of the line up while everything on the other side is sheared down. This mimics one of the ways the Earth's surface has evolved over the geological ages so I decided to make this effect more apparent. My modifications flood the landscape to an arbitrary "sea level" which is then plotted in Mode 1 to allow the land to be drawn in green. The overall effect is that of lakes, coastlines and islands. A different view is obtained every time this option is selected. At the price of making the function slower the illusion can be made more realistic by choosing a higher resolution grid (make sc bigger) and increasing the loop value in line 880 from 35 to 60 or more. -
