Catalogue Is a versatile program which lets you carry out disc file maintenance- from single key presses.
The functions supported are:
You'll be familiar with most of these with the exception of Title. This lets you give a name to each side of your disc up to a maximum of 25 characters. The title is saved in User 15 so the file is normally invisible.
The various ON ERROR statements will prevent the CPC6128/664 stopping should a disc error occur. They make debuggings little difficult so it's a good idea to make sure you've typed Catalogue in properly by using the checksum program. Unfortunately it isn't possible to trap disc errors from Basic on the CPC46-1, so if you make a mistake such as trying to run a text file Catalogue will stop with an error report.
To use Catalogue simply save it using the filename DISC then type:
or for those or you with Arnor's Utopia rom, press Ctrl+Enter. You will be presented with a catalog of all the files in User 0 on the disc. Use the cursor keys to select and press the key corresponds the operation required. These shown at the bottom of the screen
From time to time you will error messages returned Amsdos such as ????????.BAK found. Don't worry, this sin means you tried to erase bad files when there wcrn't any. Other message you will get TITLE. DSC not found which oce when you are titling a disc why does not already have a title.
I suggest you save a copy of program on each side of all you discs and get into the habit of running it whenever you put a disc the drive. It certainly makes use discs more convenient and you soon wonder how you manage without it.
