Cheese Cruncher | Applications Disque |
Cheese seems to have firmly established itself as the main crunching utility in the PD, replacing Crown's notoriously sloooooow Crunch, and Turbo Imploder. New versions of Cheese keep on coming out all the time, but this is the latest version that I own. Its main improvements over version 2.1 are that the Using Cheese is extremely easy. All you do is select the file which you want to crunch, and then wait whilst Cheese crunches it to a minimum size. This is where Cheese really shows its stuff - it is SO fast at crunching files, and they come down to a respectable size, too! As an example, I tried the main game file of "Pipe Mania," which was originally 35K. It took just 30 seconds to crunch it to a 21K file: an overall saving of some 40% - not bad at all. For the more technical users, you can also change where you want to place the decrunching routine, and also where the decrunching buffer will be. However, you can let the computer automatically work out where to put the buffer. For people who want a quick way to crunch files and save disc space, Cheese is an absolute must. It's even better, now that it can cope with BASIC programs, too. So get it now!
