Amstrad confirms PC 3000 series launch in Germany (Popular Computing Weekly) |
Amstrad has confirmed that it is to launch a new range of business computers as exclusively revealed in Express five weeks ago. The company was reported last week to be set to unveil the new models at this week's C-Bit trade show in Hanover. It has yet to be confirmed that the range will be called the 3000 series, following on from last year's ill-fated 2000 series, which attracted bad press when the machines had to be called back to cure hard disk faults. The new machines will have a 'more robust build' than the 2000 series, featuring metal rather than plastic casing. In a drive to restore market confidence - already partly successful -Amstrad has uncharacteristically given advance warning that it will be launching a range of 'innovative' products between now and October, including PCs, home computers and video cassette recorders. Sources have already leaked to Express that there are plans for new CPC and PPC machines. Amstrad stock was said by the Financial Times to be "the most heavily traded on the London Option market" last week, with 31 million shares turned over. Some 25m of these were handled by securities house Kleinwort Benson, which increased its profits forecast on the company after visiting Amstrad. Amstrad's share prices rose 6p to 61.5p during the week of March 17. New Computer Express
