Acid Music Box 2 | Acid Music Box 3 |
Eliot's actually the main guy behind the Acid Music Box series, but there are five people who wrote the tunes for the latest release - Eliot, ADS and Greg were the main contributors, and Targhan and Babar also did one each. Acid Music Box is basically a "jukebox," and issue 3 contains no less than 19 tunes, with such names as Cool, Hymn, X-Track, Megas, and Ze-Last. There's music taken from the Bordelik 4 demo, too. They're all very much in the line of techno music, which isn't really my thing, but I found that some of them were pretty good. Well, all these guys are demo coders, too, so there's some lovely demo parts to go with the music, mostly written by Chany. If you haven't got a CRTC 0 or 1, there's a music loader which lets you hear the tunes, minus the brilliant graphics. The intro is just a message to some other CPC people, with the word "ACID" wiggling about at the top of the screen. The main menu consists of a full overscan screen with some colourful equalisers, a scrolling message, another huge logo, some very smooth and fast vertical bars, and another box of text which you can flick through by pressing SPACE. The current tune that is being played is also shown on-screen, and from here you can select another tune using the cursor keys and COPY. The final part is written by the Scorpion team and is some blue raster bars moving upwards behind the word "ACID," yet again, with another merry techno tune playing. Acid Music Box 3 isn't really centred around flashy demo sequences; it's more the music. I haven't heard the last two Acid Music Box episodes, but what I heard from this one was quite good, considering that I'm no real fanatic of banging techno music - I do like a lot of electronic music, but not the rubbish they play at the sort of venues where everyone's on Ecstasy and other strange concoctions. If you really hate techno, then I suggest you stay well clear. OTTO
