CP/M Plus on ROM for the Amstrad / Schneider CPC's. Further a set of expansion ROMs containing CP/M Plus applications. And the corresponding documentation for it. Enjoy CP/M Plus from ROM!

These ROMs allow to start CP/M Plus out of the ROM (2x16 KB) and provide additional CP/M Plus applications on other ROMs.

Both CP/M Plus ROMs are compatible to the firmware. The app. ROMs are not, they have a special format.

Names of the ROMs (CP/M Plus ROM version)

  • CPM_Plus-1.ROM / Both ROMs (CPM_Plus-1 and -2) are needed to start CP/M Plus. Use the RSX: |EMS or |O (see below).
  • CPM_Plus-1V.ROM / If one uses the ROM CPM_Plus-1V.ROM instead of CPM_Plus-1.ROM then the sign on message is shorter.
  • CPM_Plus-2.ROM / (One should just check them both and then decide which one you like more).


RSX commands of the CP/M PLUS ROMs (2.34 and 2.30)

  • EMS -----/ Starts CP/M Plus from ROM and shows the CP/M Plus expansion ROMs with thier names.
  • O ------/ CP/M Plus is configurated for two drives and the RAM drive C: with 444 KB RAM.
  • PW ------- Probable this command is equal to RSX commands "|EMS" and "|O".
  • CPMVER --/ These commands are both identical. They show the Copyright message for CP/M PLUS and the CPM ROMs.
  • VER ----/ Furtheron the version of the CP/M PLUS ROMs is shown, as the serial number and the name of the user.
  • OP ------- This RSX command activates a menu system, which allows you to launch a .COM or .SUB file in an automatic way.
    An error message will be displayed if there is no .COM or .SUB file on disc.
    Else you can choose the file of choice with SPACE and start it with RETURN.
    Then the CP/M PLUS with RAM Disc will be started and the selected file will be launched.
    Attention: Some print routine are incompatible, for example this is the case for X-DDOS. Switch off on problems.
  • MYNAME --- Displays the name of the user / buyer of this set of CP/M Plus ROMs on screen.
  • PASSWORD - This command asks you for a password. If you enter it three times wrong then CP/M Plus will be started from ROM.
  • OHELP ---/ These commands are both identical. They show if there are CP/M Plus expansion ROMs containing programs.
  • EMSHELP / If such ROMs can be found their name and position (ROM number) will be displayed.
    Using |OHELP,nr or |EMSHELP,nr will display the applications contained in CP/M Plus expansion ROM #nr.
  • NOCPM ---- This RSX command will switch OFF the CP/M Plus expansion ROMs. All other ROMs will be initialiized again.

New resident commands of the CP/M Plus booted from ROM

The two CP/M Plus ROMs provide an expanded version of the CP/M Plus operating system.
Aside of the RAM disc a set of new resident commands have been implemented.

When using the ROM CP/M Plus then enter the command "builtin" to display all resident commands of the ROM CP/M Plus.
These commands are available without the need of extra expansion ROMs, they are resident in the 2 * 16 KB base ROMs.

  • BUILTIN -- Shows all additonal commands of the ROM CP/M Plus.

  • 24LINE --- Sets the screen to 24 lines and one status line (with scrolling text). This is the normal state.
  • 25LINE --- Sets the screen to 25 lines of text (not status line)
  • AMSDOS /-- Performs a RESET.

  • BORDER --- Sets the border to the given color number (0-26), command like in BASIC.
  • CKEY /-- Assigns a key (0-79) to a character (0-254).

  • DETAILS /- Provides information about the Drive search path, the Search order (file extensions), the Temporary drive,
  • DET / the Console Page Mode and the Program Name Display.
  • EXPAND --- The command EXPAND allows to assign an expansion string to a key.
  • HOME ----- Sets the cursor to the upper line, but does not clear the screen.
  • INK ------ Sets the background (0) or a pen (1-15) to the provided color number (0-26), command like in BASIC.
  • INVERSE /- Switches the character output to INVERSE.

  • LPRINT /-- Reads a file and sends it to the printer.

  • MODE ----- Switches to screen mode 0-2, like in BASIC.

  • PALETTE -- Defines foreground and background colors. Color values can be between 0 and 63.
  • PAPER ---- Equates the BASIC command.
  • PEN ------ Equates the BASIC command.
  • ROMCAT /-- Both commands show all the names of the CP/M applications stored in expansion ROMs for CP/M Plus.

  • CAT ------ Displays the sorted catalogue of the corresponding drive. Calculates and shows free space on disc.

L'Amstrad CPC est une machine 8 bits à base d'un Z80 à 4MHz. Le premier de la gamme fut le CPC 464 en 1984, équipé d'un lecteur de cassettes intégré il se plaçait en concurrent  du Commodore C64 beaucoup plus compliqué à utiliser et plus cher. Ce fut un réel succès et sorti cette même années le CPC 664 équipé d'un lecteur de disquettes trois pouces intégré. Sa vie fut de courte durée puisqu'en 1985 il fut remplacé par le CPC 6128 qui était plus compact, plus soigné et surtout qui avait 128Ko de RAM au lieu de 64Ko.
