(posting in english again, sorry...) since the titles available for Amstrad GX4000 are rare, and for CPC and CPC+ are huge, i guess would be interesting having them converted to Amstrad GX4000 somehow, whatever they are classic games, demos, homebrew games, etc.? i think this would be amazing, since GX4000 is a quite unfairly underrated game console, and needs to be more popular in the retro scene! what do you all think about?
Well there are ways to get those CPC(or PLUS) games on ROM format already. The topic was developped at CPCwiki and here as well I guess.
but for those to run on a GX4000 you need them to be able to run with no firmware of course, and with no keyboard. Many games are not suitable for GX4000 because they need you to press enter or space keys, or need a patch for the infamous keyboard scan bug on PLUS.
Also there is quite some debate : if this is just a way to run those games on the machine, you can simply need/use a CPC anyway.
if it is to patch them for PLUS with extra features : it is not really easy and would not really take advantage of those extra features most of time unless you re-do the game.
And last : it is already hard to just have new batches of cartridges...
=need an ACID chip emulation. =need cards+ROM and so on.. =would even need some plastic casing.
Just to ptch existing games to use PLUS palette is hard to achieve as it need some dedication and time and love. Hell even simple graphic hacks are not easily finalised.
Plus most of the Amstrad community actually owns CPC or PLUS, but not GX4000 as those are most often purchased by console collectionners who own them just because it is a rare oddity.
We have Amstrad PLUS because those are the most recent "CPC" available, were nicely crafted; pretty solid and classy, and are quite convenient for modding or interesting because of the few extra PLUS features.
Also during its brief commercial Era, GX4000 was plagued by straight or almost straight "disk to cartidge" conversions.
Barbarian 2, Batman, Klax, Mystical : they are straight and have close to no "PLUS" add-on.
Fire&forget2, crazycar2, operation thunderbolt, tintin on the moon, Wild street : are basically the same as CPC, just palette refresher and perhaps slightly few small stuffs.
The two tennis games were somewhat also ports from the CPC, the Pinball game as well. TennisCup2 and Magic pinball were converted from Mode1 CPC into GX4000 Mode0 and has use for Hardsprites.
msot of the best games were really pure GX4000 productions : PANG, Robocop2, NavySeals, Burning Rubber, Plotting, Panzakickboxing... are qutie good.
but half of the somewhat GX/PLUS specific games are not good as well : Dick tracy, World of sport, Copter271, No Exit...
Switchblade make some sort of illusion, but the CPC version is good anyway.
Most of time a good CPC game would not be considered a good GX/console game.
Crazy car2 or Fire and Forget 2 were considered good CPC games, but were actually quite average games with good CPC graphics and not so good gameplay.
to add only sky gradiant is not enough.
Operation Thunderbolt or Batman the movie or even Barbarian2 were actually good CPC games because we had only our CPC to play and it wasn't bad for the machine.
On the GX/PLUS it was a shame they would not even account for the extra palette, 2button joysticks and perhaps a few tricks so it would look better or play better.
Also many of those straight CPC ports would not just take advantage of having 128K of ROM as they were actually "cpc464" versions"... Batman or Barbarian 2 or Klax or many more were still having the "Speccy sized" screen...
Klax could have had a killer version with a 256pixels vertical screen per exemple.
