Guitar Companion (Computing With the Amstrad) | Applications Creation Musical |
ROBIN NIXON introduces a simple music tutor THE Guitar Companion, aimed at people new to guitar playing, is designed to teach the 48 most commonly used chords. In effect, it is an audio visual chord chart. You are presented with the 12 notes of the scale, including semi-tones, below which are the four main chord types:
Note that the 7th is labelled 7 and not M7, as this means a Major 7th which is something quite different. Using the cursor cluster you can select a chord such as G# minor 7 by moving along to G# and then down to m7. Then when you press Copy a graphic representation of the fingering required for that chord is displayed while the computer plays the chord. The envelope is as close to a guitar sound as I could get, but if any readers have better guitar envelopes I would be glad to hear from them. If at any time while the program is running you want to tune your guitar simply press any of the keys E, A, D, G, B, E - the standard tuning of a guitar. The computer will play the required note for you. You should practise the fingering for each chord until you can achieve the same, or similar sound that is produced by the computer. Once you have learned the chords the musical world is your oyster!
