During the English Civil War, the Ellisnore Diamond was given to Sir Roger Durwood by King Charles the First as a reward for hiding the king in Carisbrooke Castle. Sir Roger also known as Blackboard (because of his full black beard, coppery face and evil eyes), thereupon denounced the king to the Round-heads. After the kings capture, suspicion fell upon Blackboard and he was removed from the governorship of the castle. He returned to the village of Moonholm and lived in seclusion, weighed down by guilt, despised by all until he died. He had vowed, shortly before death had claimed him, to sell the diamond and spend the proceeds on the poor of the parish. After a long discussion with the parson it was decided that you would complete Sir Roger's task, thus releasing his ghost from eternal damnation. CPCrulez.fr
